Unhappy news in the Mississippi legal community.
Judge James E. Thomas is dead of lung cancer. I worked on the Court of Appeals as a law clerk for 13 months, and in that time came to have a great respect for every member of the Court. But Judge Thomas was an especial favorite of mine. He was plain-spoken, fair dealing, and without a doubt the orneriest member of the Court in my time there. I owe my first job after the Court in no small part to his recommendation.
